Our Playlist

The final blog! To be honest, I wasn't that excited to write this blog. The styles of music are not as familiar as the things I’ve written about in the past. In the instructions for the blog it was stated that if you knew the song you basically couldn’t use it. That made me uncomfortable at first but I’m glad I reached out of my comfort zone and explored some other music. The first continent I chose to talk about was North America of course. First, traditional music from the culture, I chose a song entitled The One I Love. I am personally not a big fan of the music that comes out of the Native American culture but I chose the song because I felt it showed/encaptured it pretty well. The drums, voices and unification really gave it the authentic Native American song feel.

The next song I chose was a modern take on the culture of North American Native music. It was released 6 years ago. I actually kind of enjoyed the song. It’s really cool to see so much come together. Different styles, ages, genders, and more all came together to create something as one. I really did enjoy the song and the music video was super interesting. I liked the message of the video and I’m glad I came across it.

The other continent I chose to cover was Australia. I found it so cool to explore because the continent is also the country but in that there is so much culture to learn about. I find the didgeridoo to be such an interesting instrument. It’s cool how the circular breathing technique is how the sound continues to work. I really enjoyed this performance and it was interesting to watch. The Australian culture is one I find pretty different but very intriguing to learn about.

Lastly is some modern traditional Australian music. I really enjoyed this video because of the beats included with the playing of the didgeridoo. I thought it was so cool to include the present and past of Australian culture and make it into one performance. Give it a listen!

  7. Hey Hunter, I loved the blog! My favorite selection that you talked about was the modern Australian music with the didgeridoo. I think it sounded so cool to mix the beats with an instrument that already sounds great on its own.

My Music

Hello everyone! My name is Hunter Heron, and I am a junior here at Converse. I am from Charleston, SC but I have lived in a few different places due to my dad being in the military and being stationed around. I was born in Florida, moved to Illinois and then lived in west Texas (Also in San Angelo!). I love listening to music. My close friends and family know that I always have something playing and I love to sing along! Throughout the blog I've included hotlinks. They are blue so feel free to click them and hear whatever I am talking about.  I kind of go through "phases" with my music if that makes sense. I have my few that I go back to constantly, but I usually have something specific on repeat for a few days or so before I move onto something different. The past year and a half or so I have also really gotten into listening to full albums, and I love to do deep dives into artists. At the time of writing this I have been listening to a song called DOG HOUSE  by Drake, ...

Music & Family

Since a kid, music has always been something important to me. A lot of different people and experiences have shaped my music taste, or exposure. What comes to mind immediately is my friends, a (very specific) music class in 2nd grade, and lastly my family. Specifically, my dad. At a very young age I was exposed to lots of different music from my dad. I remember taking his MP3 player and putting headphones in and listening for hours. Through that (and our various car rides) I discovered a lot of different sounds. Some of it being things he was currently listening to but a lot of it being things that he grew up on. When I talked to my dad it was actually a really interesting conversation. I thought back to these conversations that we have had about music in the past and hearing these same stories as a 20-year-old as opposed to a young kid makes for a very different but very cool understanding. That understanding really came when I talked to my dad about who he was listening to at my age....

Music & Traditions

Music is a big part of my life. I've talked about it before but to reiterate it- I am always listening to something.  I haven't been to any weddings (except one when I was 5), and (thankfully) I haven't attended a funeral yet, so I don't have any musical experiences along that avenue. I do however have a few times in my life where I was able to use music to overcome or process a situation or feeling. I would consider these feelings/situations/emotions that come up time and time again to be "traditions" that the same songs or music seem to fit. I find that music, at least the way I use it, has a purpose most of the time. The first situation I can really relate a certain song or type of music to would definitely be my experience around January/February of this year. I remember being super stressed out and feeling unable to sleep. I would go to bed and just lay there. I was trying to figure out things athletically, academically and personally and was just so ove...
