My Music

Hello everyone! My name is Hunter Heron, and I am a junior here at Converse. I am from Charleston, SC but I have lived in a few different places due to my dad being in the military and being stationed around. I was born in Florida, moved to Illinois and then lived in west Texas (Also in San Angelo!). I love listening to music. My close friends and family know that I always have something playing and I love to sing along! Throughout the blog I've included hotlinks. They are blue so feel free to click them and hear whatever I am talking about.

I kind of go through "phases" with my music if that makes sense. I have my few that I go back to constantly, but I usually have something specific on repeat for a few days or so before I move onto something different. The past year and a half or so I have also really gotten into listening to full albums, and I love to do deep dives into artists.

At the time of writing this I have been listening to a song called DOG HOUSE by Drake, Julia Wolf and Yeat. I just really like the song and especially the intro from Julia Wolf. I love the guitar and singing and then right into the beat switch where Drake comes in.

Now, something that is deeply important to me. This artist and her music came to me at a time I think I really needed to hear it. I discovered it doing one of my artist deep dives and now I actually have a playlist with every album she's ever released on it. Gracie Abrams! I heard a few songs of hers and really liked them, so I listened to her most recent album The Secret of Us. This was about a year ago now. I liked that and then I really started listening to her music shortly before Christmas break. I fell in love with all of it and had the album This Is What It Feels Like on all the time. She is definitely one of those artists I will always have in my cycle and definitely one of my favorites of all time. Her use of words, storytelling and emotion is something I connect with and value a lot. I've learned to play a few of her songs on the guitar (just simple chords with a capo), and I really enjoy doing that. My friend Nathan really likes her song That's So True, and I have so many cool memories of listening to that with him. This past year she performed it live at the iHeartRadio Music Award show and that live version is just insane, so I went ahead and linked it.

Similar to Dr. Vaneman, I have a hard time choosing something I don't personally like. Again, I am always listening to music and so many different things at that. After some thought I guess what I don't enjoy listening to is Machine Gun Kelly's cover of Misery Business by Paramore. I love Travis Barker (played the drums in the video) and I think Machine Gun Kelly is extremely talented but I don't love this cover. I absolutely love Paramore and Haley Williams and honestly I feel like no one is doing it better than her so I'm biased on this one!

Last thing (bonus),

I recently finished "How I Met Your Mother" and in one of the final episodes of the series, the mother plays a song called La Vie En Rose. I never heard the song before the episode but if you have a chance, go check it out! It is absolutely beautiful.

  1. Hello!! I enjoyed reading your blog :) I absolutely adore Paramore, and Hailey Williams in general, and could not agree more with the fact that no one is doing better than her! I also don't enjoy Machine Gun Kelly's cover if I'm being honest. I listened to Dog House because I recognized Julia Wolf's name and I enjoyed it pretty well!

  2. Hi Hunter ! I reeeeeeeeeeeeeally like the first song that you chose, the one that you have been listening to recently. I also listen to Drake and I almost love all his songs. I also really like the music "la vie en rose" because it's first a french song !!

  3. Hey Hunter! I found the song "That's So True" by Gracie Abrams the most interesting because I had listened to it before, but it has been a while since I heard it. I really like that song, but it is not something that I listen to right now. Which is why my favorite song you included was "Dog House" by Drake. I really like this song because of its style and flow, and I find it crazy that I haven't heard this song before because I listen to Drake quite a bit.

  4. Hi Hunter! It's awesome how the different styles of music you enjoy kind of flow into each other. I'd never heard the song "Dog House", but I'll definitely be listening to it again. The intro is so beautiful, and then when Drake comes in, it's just fun to listen to.

  6. Hey Hunter, I guess I'll have to say the one I find most interesting is the cover by Machine Gun Kelly. I can't recall really hearing you mention anything about him so I guess I just didn't know you've listened to MGK. The one I like the most is the Drake song. I'd have to agree in saying that I really like the guitar in the song.

Music & Family

Since a kid, music has always been something important to me. A lot of different people and experiences have shaped my music taste, or exposure. What comes to mind immediately is my friends, a (very specific) music class in 2nd grade, and lastly my family. Specifically, my dad. At a very young age I was exposed to lots of different music from my dad. I remember taking his MP3 player and putting headphones in and listening for hours. Through that (and our various car rides) I discovered a lot of different sounds. Some of it being things he was currently listening to but a lot of it being things that he grew up on. When I talked to my dad it was actually a really interesting conversation. I thought back to these conversations that we have had about music in the past and hearing these same stories as a 20-year-old as opposed to a young kid makes for a very different but very cool understanding. That understanding really came when I talked to my dad about who he was listening to at my age....

Music & Traditions

Music is a big part of my life. I've talked about it before but to reiterate it- I am always listening to something.  I haven't been to any weddings (except one when I was 5), and (thankfully) I haven't attended a funeral yet, so I don't have any musical experiences along that avenue. I do however have a few times in my life where I was able to use music to overcome or process a situation or feeling. I would consider these feelings/situations/emotions that come up time and time again to be "traditions" that the same songs or music seem to fit. I find that music, at least the way I use it, has a purpose most of the time. The first situation I can really relate a certain song or type of music to would definitely be my experience around January/February of this year. I remember being super stressed out and feeling unable to sleep. I would go to bed and just lay there. I was trying to figure out things athletically, academically and personally and was just so ove...
